THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGISTS' COMPANY

Information Technologists

Information technology is a dynamic, innovative and pervasive activity which underpins all aspects of industry and society. It is a very broad based profession, spanning IT hardware, software and services suppliers, those who implement these IT products to create value for their organisations, academics and industry researchers, and related professional advisors.

The importance of integrating technology with business processes is well understood in the UK, which is a hub for global initiatives in IT security, governance and professionalism.

The Information Technologists Company’s 676 members are senior and active people from all areas of IT who work together to apply and leverage their extensive business and technology skills to foster learning and education, encourage the development of best industry practice, and engage in IT related charitable activity.

World Class and Fit for the Future

■  The Company’s members, working within various IT organisations, have spearheaded a major British Computer Society led co-ordinated initiative, involving several major organisations, to put IT on a robust professional footing.

■  The Company is actively involved in innovative ways of making IT attractive to the next generation. It is creating an Academy to build a global model institution to integrate business and IT skills. It is also helping raise the horizons of school children, leveraging its experience in transforming a poorly performing London school.

■  Leverage is an important concept for the Livery Company - ensuring that the best practice it encourages can be replicated and used on a wider scale. A strong example of the process and scaling, incorporating the Company’s influence, is Lifelites, where a communications system devised by members for terminally ill children in a hospice has been replicated in all 35 UK hospices by the Royal Masonic Trust for Boys and Girls.

■  The Company has strong links with the City University, the Royal Corps of Signals, IT training providers and the academic community.

Country Issues

■ The Information Technologists Company, in common with the centuries old City of London livery tradition, takes a long term and deep approach to business relations. It is a bridge between its members, with their diverse skills, capabilities and experience, linking effective use of IT within the City of London. It also has an active IT entrepreneurs’ group which encourages and highlights best practice to help new start-up companies and their teams together with a newly formed Information Security Group selected from the membership.

■ The Company’s members apply these approaches and processes to the educational and charitable sectors giving a depth of commitment, caring and camaraderie that helps to enrich and underpin the desirability of the City of London as a place to do business.
